ISFJ and ESTJ Compatibility: Giving Feedback

Giving clear feedback that the other person can answer.

ISFJ and ESTJ compatibility at work cannot be settled by their two shared letters. This example separates two issues after a public correction: whether the numbers were wrong and how the correction was delivered. Both can be discussed without dismissing the other person's concern.

A mistake is corrected in front of the group

Illustrative scene: While preparing a presentation, the colleague identifying with ESTJ notices that the numbers on a slide are wrong and points it out in front of everyone. The colleague identifying with ISFJ fixes the slide without objecting, but feels embarrassed and becomes reluctant to share unfinished work. The first colleague thinks the matter was resolved because the numbers are now correct.

Discuss both the correction and how it was delivered

The person receiving feedback could say privately, “I needed to fix those numbers. Next time, please check with me before calling it out to the whole group, unless we are about to present.” This keeps the valid correction separate from the request about how to raise it.

The person giving feedback can acknowledge the impact without withdrawing the information: “I could have handled that more carefully. I will flag draft errors to you first.” For the next review, agree which issues belong in a shared discussion and which can be resolved between the people doing the work.

Clear feedback includes enough detail to act on and enough space for a reply. A quiet response is not reliable evidence that the delivery felt fine. In this scene, both colleagues gain a more useful process by discussing a specific moment rather than explaining it away as a clash of personality types.
